Description

Designed for majors in natural science and social science wishing to enhance their understanding of the basic Latin and Greek prefixes, suffixes, and language roots that are applicable to study and reading in science-related fields. Develops skill in how words are formed, the history, meaning, pronunciation and spelling of scientific terms.

Learning outcomes

1. Show basic familiarity in use of a dictionary with proper etymology.
2. Recognize and distinguish the meanings of Latin suffixes, prefixes and roots as found in scientific vocabulary.
3. Show basic understanding of how the Greek and Latin suffixes, prefixes and roots contribute to the history and development of our English language.
4. Have increased ability to spell and pronounce the “difficult” language encountered in your scientific field of study.
