Course Description
Learn the basic techniques to visually interpret scientific principles. Attention to the tools and skills essential for creating accurate and effective scientific illustrations. Emphasis on keen observational skills and communicating accurate information using a variety of media. Repeatable for credit.
Course learning outcomes
1. Create basic scientific illustrations.
2. Describe the field of Scientific Illustration and its history.
3. Develop drawing skills and art techniques related to representational and\\naccurate rendering of natural science subjects.
4. Apply principles of illustration: concept work, sketching, composition, and effective science communication.
5. Develop research techniques in the field and virtually to further communicate scientific accuracy in illustration.
6. Use media-specific terminology to receive and provide feedback.

- Beginning concepts and vocabulary of science illustration
- Introduction to types of science illustration: field sketching, botanical, zoological, marine, and medical
- Introduction to types of media used to create science illustration
- Application of elements of art and principles of design
- Constructive critique: giving and receiving feedback between instructor and classmates
