Course Description

Includes methods used to change the surface of non-ferrous metals. Techniques used for projects may include reticulation, keum-boo, patinas, embossing, overlay, and fusing. Repeatable for credit. Prerequisite: ART 157.

Course learning outcomes

1. Design and safely alter metal art surfaces.
2. Use skills to create jewelry, small metal sculptures, and apply surface techniques.
3. Apply basic techniques to manipulate the surfaces of nonferrous metals.
4. Use media-specific terminology to receive and provide feedback.

  1. Strategies for developing basic art metal surfacing techniques
  2. Basic methods of reticulation, keum-boo, patinas, embossing, overlay, and fusing
  3. Historical and contemporary perspectives: metal surface techniques
  4. Constructive critiques: receiving and giving feedback between instructor and classmates
