Prerequisites
ART 158B1.
Course Description
Builds on the skills learned in ART 158B1. Includes centrifugal, vacuum, cuttlebone, and sand casting. Explores the use of molds to duplicate textures to transfer onto wax, creating stone settings in wax, and controlling the wax burn-out. Repeatable for credit.
Course learning outcomes
1. Apply intermediate-level skills, including using additive and subtractive methods, to create wax models for the casting process.
2. Demonstrate skills necessary to sprue, invest, and cast complex wax models into metal.
3. Achieve a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail in finished work.
4. Integrate design elements, unifying principles of design, and compositional strength.
5. Engage in safe studio practices related to the casting process.
6. Use media-specific terminology to receive and provide feedback.
