Recommended preparation

Completion of secondary level course in chosen medium.


Provides advanced, individualized development in visual arts. Develop a unique project in chosen medium. Provides opportunity for final piece(s) to go through a jury process for a gallery show, call for art, or other juried art competition. May be repeated for credit.

Learning outcomes

1. Create a portfolio-quality final piece or series.
2. Write concept statement for the project and complete jury submission form.
3. Prepare project for exhibition.
4. Use media-specific terminology when receiving and providing feedback.

Content outline

I. Concept and timeline for project
II. Project research, references, and materials
III. Present work in progress to class and instructor for feedback throughout the term
IV. Prepare for jury submission including concept statement, photographing project, filing out jury forms
V. Prepare finished project for exhibition (printing, framing, displays, etc.) depending on type of art
VI. Provide constructive critique to classmates
VII. Develop a unique project based on art/design interests and experiences

Grading is based on assignment completion and participation in discussions and critiques of assignments.
