Course Description
Explores ASAM Criteria (ASAM: Treatment Criteria for Addictive, Substance-Related, and Co-Occurring Conditions). Develops skills associated with effective case management in addictions treatment and behavioral health settings. Practices professional writing and case documentation skills.
Course learning outcomes
1. Describe the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) dimensions and medical necessity corresponding to level of care.
2. Assess the interplay of the ASAM dimensions to assign an appropriate DSM 5 diagnosis with the corresponding level of care for treatment.
3. Demonstrate client record documentation.
4. Describe ethical, legal and culturally relevant issues for appropriate decision making and working in scope of case management practice.
5. Demonstrate the process of an ASAM biopsychosocial assessment.
