Course Description

Studies historical and contemporary perspectives on juvenile offenders, juvenile code and juvenile court procedures. Describes treatment programs and differences between adult and juvenile court procedures.

Course learning outcomes

1. Students will have a good understanding of the basic functions of juvenile correctional facilities, courts and probation and parole.
2. Students will become familiar with the benefits and drawbacks of a wide variety of juvenile sanctions.
3. Students will be able to distinguish between the juvenile and adult corrections systems.
