Course Description

This course provides the student with knowledge about common social, emotional and mental health concerns in early childhood and explores developmentally appropriate classroom guidance strategies for supporting children’s social and emotional skills.

Course learning outcomes

1.Increase awareness of the vital role of adults in the development of children.
2.Demonstrate an emerging competency in leading developmentally appropriate practices and classroom management strategies that foster social, emotional, and mental health.
3.Identify experiences, which support the children’s emerging skills in self-regulation.
4.Articulate common social, emotional, and mental health concerns in early childhood.
5.Demonstrate an emerging competency in fostering a caring and cooperative environment that uses every day interactions to build social and emotional skills that foster mental health.
