Course Description

Using hand tools, files, hacksaw, chisels and coated abrasives. Includes shop safety, hand tapping, thread measurement, arbor press operations, micrometer and vernier caliper reading.

Course learning outcomes

1. Perform hand tap selection and cut internally threaded holes.
2. Select, grade, and use abrasive cloth to deburr metal edges.
3. Perform external cutting of threads using a die and diestock.
4. Perform precision measurement with both vernier and micrometer calipers to an accuracy of one thousandth of an inch.
