Addiction Counseling - Career Pathway Certificate of Completion (CPCC)

Description

The Addiction Counseling Career Pathway Certificate of Completion provides the coursework and 100 of the 1,000 hours of supervised experience required to qualify to sit for the Oregon Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor I exam. The certificate provides foundational coursework required by the state and recommended by community partners to be successful in addiction treatment professions

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the certificate, students will be able to:

  1. Describe foundational human services professional values and ethics.
  2. Engage in personal learning and critical reflection to inform treatment practices for clients from diverse populations and cultures.
  3. Demonstrate capacity to complete demographic, intake, and treatment documentation accurately.
  4. Demonstrate professional clinical interviewing skills.

Entrance Requirements

Academic Entrance Requirements

Recommended:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Completion of WR 065 Rhetoric and Critical Thinking II or higher or minimum placement WR/Comm Level 7
  • Basic computer competency skills

Other Entrance Requirements

Required:

  • Must pass a criminal background check as a condition of acceptance into a practicum for training. Students who do not pass the criminal background check may not be eligible to complete training at affiliated practicum sites, to sit for certification exams, or to be hired for some professional positions. Students with questions about their history should contact the appropriate state board or the program director.
  • Some practicum sites may require documentation of current immunizations. Please contact the program director if you have any questions.

Material Costs

  • Travel costs for practicum; costs based on location.
  • Mental Health and Addiction Certification Board of Oregon exams: $75 application fee; $225 exam fee
  • Background check for practicum placement: approximately $75

  • Courses are only offered one time per academic year; students should review which terms courses are offered.
  • Fall term start will provide the most efficient progression:
  • Meeting with an academic advisor is strongly recommended. 

Performance Standards

  • Academic Requirements
    • Students must have a 2.0 cumulative GPA to earn a COCC certificate or degree.
    • All courses with the BH prefix must be completed with a grade of C or higher.
  • Additional Requirements
    • A student may be considered ineligible for continued enrollment in the program if the student has failed to satisfactorily complete a given Addiction Counseling/Behavioral Health course after re-enrolling in that course once (one time).
