Course Description

Offers an in-depth analysis of Indigenous People in Oregon. Covers early contact, both cultural and political histories, as well as current issues. Presents themes such as sovereignty, traditional knowledge, and legislative impacts on both tribes and individuals. Places lens and perspective of Indigenous people at the forefront of this course.

Course learning outcomes

1. Identify and analyze the connections between historical class content and current issues.
2. Describe the diverse perspectives and experiences of tribes, both as political and cultural groups within Oregon.
3. Evaluate legislation and policies' short- and long-term impacts on tribes within Oregon.
4. Explain how the government-to-government relationship works amongst Federally Recognized Tribes in Oregon, the State of Orgon, and the United States Federal Government.
