Course Description
Introduces a comprehensive range of healthcare professions. Provides tools and resources for making informed career decisions. Covers assessing skills, values, interests, barriers, education, and training as well as professional requirements, licensing requirements, and approaches to decision-making. Explores essential skills required for successful, competent, and patient-centered healthcare practitioners.
Course learning outcomes
1. Identify careers in health care, including educational and licensing requirements, wage outlook, employment outlook, and employer expectations
2. Compare the health-related programs and focus areas available at COCC, including course and performance requirements, application processes, and transitions to professional programs of study as applicable
3. Assess current interests, skills, values, work preferences, and career assessment tools and connect results to labor market information (LMI) to make informed career decisions
4. Identify skills and abilities necessary for successful, competent, and patient-centered healthcare practitioners
