Course Description

Provides a broad overview of the field of addictions. Describes the etiology of addiction, the signs and symptoms of addiction, the continuum of addictive behaviors, treatment, prevention, recovery and relapse.

Course learning outcomes

1. Explain how social, political, economic, cultural systems, gender, and lifestyle impact substance use disorders and process disorders.
2. Describe the history of legal and illegal substances.
3. Describe established diagnostic criteria for substance use disorders.
