Course Description

Introduces specialized work in shielded metal arc welding of various joint configurations and structural shapes. Covers advanced concepts and utilization of the shielded metal arc welding process and practical applications for the shielded metal arc welding process.

Course learning outcomes

1. Demonstrate safe practices in the MATC Welding Lab using Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) processes.
2. Model appropriate set up, maintenance, and use of SMAW equipment.
3. Weld common joint assemblies using SMAW processes to welding industry standards.
4. Evaluate SMAW welds using advanced level evaluation processes and practices in accordance with welding industry standards.
