Course Description
Builds on the foundational skills of Spanish 101Z including the language, cultural practices, and perspectives of Spanish-speaking communities both locally and globally. Continues to cultivate listening, speaking, reading, writing, and intercultural competence through conversation, cultural exploration, and other activities. Designed for those who have completed a term of college-level Spanish (or equivalent) as the second of three in the sequence of First-year Spanish courses (SPAN 101Z, SPAN 102Z, and SPAN 103Z). If you have experience speaking Spanish at home, in your community, or abroad, please consult with the instructor to make sure this class is the best for your level.
Course learning outcomes
1. Interpret common cultural cues with respect to everyday interactions and situations. (Intercultural Competence)

Content outline
This course continues the development of reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. With regards to content, it focuses on the concepts of weather, time and date, clothing, colors, regular present tense -er/-ir verbs, the verb gustar, interrogatives, stem-changing verbs in the present tense (e→ie, e→i, o→ue), the city, the home, furniture and appliances, the verb estar (used with prepositions of place, adjectives describing states, the present progressive, and contrasted with the verb ser), the verb ir and the phrase ir + a + infinitivo (used to refer to the future), and adjectives referring to physical and emotional states.
