The Nursing Assistant Program prepares students to be a certified nursing assistant (CNA).
A CNA is a member of the healthcare team under the direct supervision of a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse. CNAs work in hospitals, long-term care centers, or other healthcare settings. A CNA helps people with activities of daily living and other healthcare needs. Students who successfully complete the NUR 103 Nursing Assistant class can then obtain CNA certification by passing the Oregon State Board of Nursing competency exam and background check. After earning their CNA certification, students can apply for work as a CNA.
Students who want to become a CNA can take NUR 103 Nursing Assistant as a stand-alone class, or they can take NUR 103 Nursing Assistant as part of the one-year Nursing Assistant certificate of completion (NA CC1). The NA CC1 adds on other foundational classes (such as math, writing, and communication) as well as Community Health Worker certification.
See the Nursing Assistant page for program and contact information.
