Advising Notes
The Nursing Assistant One-Year Certificate of Completion (NA CC1) is designed for students planning to enter the workforce upon graduation; most courses are not intended to transfer. However, some courses may be transferable to public or private baccalaureate institutions for students who choose to pursue higher degrees.
Students can also enter the workforce by taking NUR 103 Nursing Assistant as a stand-alone course, they do not have to complete the NA CC1 to be eligible to apply for CNA certification through OSBN. Students must successfully complete NUR 103 Nursing Assistant in order to apply for Oregon State Board of Nursing (OSBN) certification as a CNA. To earn CNA certification, students must pass a state competency examination and state background check.
Program courses should be carefully planned. Note that PHE 282 Foundations of Community Health Worker will be offered at different campuses in different terms. NUR 103 Nursing Assistant will likely be offered in fall and spring.
NUR 103 Nursing Assistant is approved by OSBN (971-673-0685 or oregon.gov/OSBN).
For patient and personnel safety reasons, students are recommended to avoid working more than 20 hours or working a night shift during the term(s) they are taking NUR 103 Nursing Assistant. Students may not work a night shift prior to a clinical shift in NUR 103 Nursing Assistant.
Please contact the program director and/or CAP Services for more information.
